Executive Board Members

Karen A. Toppi, M.D.

Founder, Hope to Help Foundation

Dr. Karen Toppi has been caring for patients in Flagler County for over 11 years. Dr. Toppi is highly respected as a leader in Women’s Health and Gynecology.

Dr. Toppi received her BS in Psychology & Biology from Indiana State University; she holds a Masters degree from the University of Hartford in Neuroscience  and her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Health Sciences Chicago Medical School. She completed her Residency and Chief Residency training at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Fellowship in Advanced Pelvic Surgery, Department of Gynecologic Oncology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.  During her career, Dr. Toppi achieved Advanced and Masters level training in Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery including the DaVinci Surgical System.  Her professional certifications and memberships include: The Advanced Society of Coloscopy & Cervical Pathology; American Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Prior to dedicating her life to Medicine and Women’s Health, Dr. Toppi had a career as a Law Enforcement Officer in Connecticut. This background nurtured her unique gift to access a situation, gather the facts and communicate clearly and with compassion to individuals in crisis.

In 2012, Dr. Toppi initiated the creation of the Hope to Help Foundation, her non-profit organization.  Dr. Toppi is the vision and leadership that delivers compassionate and helpful care to women diagnosed with Breast and Gynecological Cancers improve their health and well being by providing mentoring & education services and partnering medical treatment with holistic services.  The creation of Hope to Help Foundation has been a loving journey inspired by her patients throughout her life as a physician, the women within this community, her own journey and the brave cancer patients she has met along the way.

 In her spare time, Dr. Toppi enjoys QiGong, Meditation and Kayaking.

Sarah Lantier

Vice Chairwoman Executive Board
Hope to Help Foundation

Sarah Lantier oversees the day to day operations of Hope to Help Foundation. When asked by join Dr. Toppi in the start up of Hope to Help Foundation, Sarah replied, “It is an honor. This is your baby I am going to help you deliver it!” As a founding board member Sarah brings more than 20 years of business-to-consumer experience with her. She is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of sales, marketing, operations, communications, training and customer service.

For the last several years, Sarah was Vice President, and sat on the Board of Directors for Lantier Construction Company, a family owned business in Moorestown, NJ. Prior to joining Hope to Help, Sarah was Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Citigroup’s retail brokerage division, Smith Barney. While at Smith Barney, she was recruited into the Retail Management Training Program and was hired into a newly created position as Regional Sales and Training Officer, focused on helping Financial Consultants expand and maximize the efficiency of their business. Her region included 19 offices with sales in excess of $600 million.

Sarah is an active member of Hammock Dunes Club. She has served as Treasurer and Secretary of the Tennis Association, as well as Treasurer of the Ladies Golf Association.

Having trained musically at Westminster Choir College, Sarah sings with the Community Chorus of Palm Coast and has a beautiful soprano voice. She practices Qigong, Meditation, plays league tennis and her preferred workout is TRX. Sarah enjoys traveling with her family whenever possible.

Her career, her devotion to charitable work, and her personal life experience have prepared Sarah for the opportunity to contribute to, and advocate for, the well-being of women, patients and caregivers. With her excellent communications skills and business savvy, Sarah is comfortable interacting with business leaders and influential executives to forge ongoing partnerships.

Sarah is genuinely committed to helping women in need. She has journeyed with cancer patients through One Woman at a Time and Rally for the Cure, and is pleased and proud to share her talents of fund-raising, sales, marketing and special event organization to the Hope to Help Foundation.

Her compassion and love of people are among the special gifts Susie proudly brings to the Hope to Help Foundation.

Arlene Mohan

Treasurer
Hope to Help Foundation

Arlene Mohan has a B.A. in Accounting, and ever the entrepreneur, started her own accounting firm specializing in taxes and bookkeeping for individuals and local small businesses.

In 1984, when her young son began experiencing symptoms that baffled doctors, Arlene began her quest to tackle this medical mystery.  She began researching natural products convinced this was the remedy for her son, but soon discovered the resources available to her were very limited.  In her frustration, and with her pioneering spirit, Arlene opened her own natural food store to provide products for her own family and her community.

Arlene’s natural food enterprise was a success, and to serve a larger area, she started a complimentary food distribution service to insure supplies for products and services from the New York to Washington, D.C. area.

Recognized for her perseverance and dedication, in 1993 Arlene was approached by a neighboring business owner to organize, modernize and run the day-to-day affairs of a natural stone and salt company.  Here she oversaw the sales, marketing, procurement, logistics, human resources, compliance and accounting while learning more about quarries, road salt and the trucking industry than she ever needed to know!

1999 brought another change in Arlene’s varied career path when she began work for an institutional and mechanical contracting firm.  She implemented new accounting and database software, wrote bids, purchased large equipment, was a customer liaison, created operational manuals and dealt with the everyday logistics and human resource issues.

After her contributions to so many others, in 2005, Arlene’s own health became her top priority.  She moved to Florida for the warmth, has had several surgeries and continues to wage the ongoing fight to stay upbeat and mobile through her physical pain.  She credits the tremendous support received throughout the years from her family and friends for her recovery progress.

On a personal note, Arlene enjoys Qi Gong, bike riding, kayaking, swimming, cooking and crocheting.

It’s no  wonder why this hard-working and courageous woman has become a most welcome addition to The Hope to Help Foundation board.

Patricia Dodge

Secretary
Hope to Help Foundation

Patricia is a graduate of Rockford College where she earned her B.A. in Elementary Education and holds an M.A. from Georgetown College. She has used her education to implement behavior modification programs and programs for gifted students. She has also worked as a diagnostic reading teacher and evaluated and individualized programs for children lacking in reading skills. Patricia’s dedication to working with children and adults led her to the Literacy Foundation as an instructor where she prepared students for the GED. She has also designed curriculum and given workshops to other teachers.

Patricia’s passion for children is evident. She sat on the board of the Child Abuse Council where she raised awareness of the overwhelming needs of children in the community and organized numerous fundraisers to support this cause.

But Patricia’s passions are far-reaching for all people in need. She is currently a part of the Body Therapy Center in Palm Coast, FL. In this capacity, she helps clients to better understand the role stress has on their wellbeing and their health: she leads discussion groups and health classes; facilitates mindfulness meditation classes; teaches Reiki (a hands-on healing technique); conducts seminars on various health topics and organizes guest speakers. Patricia’s goal is to help her clients take responsibility for their own health and to provide them with the skills to nurture their bodies, minds and souls within an environment that is safe, peaceful and serene. Her facility in Palm Coast utilizes the Trinity Table for a unique and profound individualized relaxing experience.

Patricia is a trained hospice care provider and is an ordained non-denominational minister for The Sanctuary of the Beloved. She has taken courses at Penn State University for suicide prevention and intervention. She has worked as a realtor and successfully helped over fifty families to relocate, specializing in executive relocation.

She lived in Germany and also in Paris, France, where she taught Reiki classes and continued treatments.

With Patricia’s excellent communications skills, cultural awareness and sensitivity, her patience and self-discipline, and her true love of helping all people in need, she is uniquely qualified for her board duties at the Hope to Help Foundation.

Michael R. Davis

Executive Board

Michael Davis has a varied professional and cultural background. He is an attorney, having received his Juris Doctor at Washington and Lee University School of Law.

He currently owns his own law firm, Lawyer Mike D, PLLC, in Palm Coast, FL, but has worked for other law firms in the immediate area, including: McIntyre Roy, P.A. in Lake Mary, FL and the Roy Law Firm in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Michael also holds a Masters in Business Administration from Rollins Crummer Graduate School of Business, and has worked as a Communication Systems Engineer, an Assistant E-mail Administrator and E-mail Mitigation Specialist for Rollins.

Michael is a member of numerous Bar Associations, including: the Flagler County Bar Association; the Volusia County Bar Association where he has served as Director of the Young Lawyer’s Division; the Orange County Bar Association; and the American Bar Association.

As a Diplomat for the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce, Michael Co-Chairs their Ribbon-Cutting Committee. He is also a visitor host and mentor for BNI Money Makers, and belongs to the Young Professionals Group of Flagler County.

In addition, Michael achieved Eagle Scout status with the Boy Scouts of America, and is a PADI Open Water SCUBA instructor.

With a strong background and love for music and the arts, Michael earned a Bachelor’s in Music from the State University of New York at Fredonia and has performed as a concert and solo clarinetist. He is also a member of the Palm Coast Arts Foundation.

A true Renaissance man, Michael brings his multiple talents and skills to the Hope to Help Foundation.

Thomas M. Hellman, PhD

SCORE, Volusia-Flagler Chapter, President

Most recently Dr. Hellman joined SCORE as a certified mentor with Community Relations responsibility for Flagler County. In 2014, he was elected President of the local chapter which includes Flagler and Volusia Counties. This Chapter was founded in 1965, as a subsidiary of the non-profit National SCORE organization and as a resource partner of the U.S Small Business Administration (SBA). SCORE provides an array of services to small business clients including counseling, mentoring, networking, educational workshops and seminars. Their counselors are seasoned business professionals who volunteer their time for the purpose of helping local entrepreneurs succeed. These services are provided on free of charge as is confidential counseling. As President, Dr. Hellman is responsible for providing leadership to the Chapter and to ensure all activities are carried out with the highest quality and in an ethical manner.

Tom. Hellman obtained a B.A. in Chemistry from Williams College in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1970. During 1970 Tom worked as a post-Doc in Gas Phase Kinetics. In 1992, Tom was appointed to the National Research Council’s Water Science and Technology Board. In 1993, Tom became a member of the Board of the World Environment Center and in 1996 was elected Chairman. In April, 1999, Tom was the recipient of the 1999 Edward J. Cleary General Excellence Award, presented by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers in Washington, DC.

Jeri Francoeur, MS, PA-C

Jeri Francoeur has been involved in advocacy since she first started working in the medical field in 1973 as a x-ray technician doing mammography. Her passion for breast cancer advocacy became more focused when she lost her best friend to Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2003 and her own diagnosis 6 months later with Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS). She was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to one of the Medical Quality Assurance Boards for the State of Florida, which protects Floridians from poor healthcare and healthcare practitioners; both governors Crist and Scott . reappointed her where she served for ten years and she served as Chair of the MQA Board.

Leadership comes naturally to Jeri; she is a board member and has served as Chair for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) Education and Grant Committee and as a member of FBCF’s Scientific Research Committee and chairs the Advocacy/Public Policy Committee. In her spare time she is President of the Board for Susan G Komen for the Cure, Central Florida Affiliate and has served as chair of both their Grant Committee and Public Policy Committees. She was also named as the Public Policy Chair for Susan G Komen for the State of Florida. Jeri attended NBCC’s Project Lead, Quality Care, and Clinical Trials programs for training as an advocate and attends the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium each year as well as ASCO, FORCE, AACR and many other breast cancer conferences across the United States. She also serves as a research advocate for several universities and research centers in Florida. Jeri speaks to many groups and conferences concerning all aspects of breast cancer.

She is involved in Sister’s Alive, I’m Still Here, and other support groups. For the past several years she has gone to Washington, D.C. to lobby for healthcare, speaking to Florida Congressional and Senate members as well as participating in Lobby Day for the Florida Legislature. As Public Policy Chair for Florida for Komen, she developed the alliance and led the way for the passage of the Chemo Parity Bill (Access to Cancer Treatment Fairness Act). In addition, Jeri has appeared on many radio and television shows, at health fairs, in print, and in other forms of media educating the public about breast cancer. She works closely with Congressional District offices and State Legislative offices assisting breast cancer survivors in receiving aid, both financially and emotionally. She has been a grant reviewer for Komen, FBCF and Department of Defense (DOD). Alamo Area Breast Cancer Foundation and their members, especially Sandi Stanford, Joy Moose and Dale Eastman are responsible for her driving force in advocacy and public policy.

Dr. Vijay Jain

Integrative and Holistic Medicine

Dr. Vijay Jain brings more than 40 years of experience in General Surgery and 18 years of focused study of integrative medicine to his work with Amrit Yoga Institute. His intention is to integrate traditional/Western medicine with ancient Indian medicine and well-tried systems of healing from different cultures.

Dr. Jain graduated from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, a prestigious medical school in India in 1969. After finishing his Masters in General Surgery, he migrated to USA in 1974 to pursue excellence in Surgery. He started a private practice in General and Laparoscopic abdominal Surgery after finishing his residency in 1978. Following a successful practice in Surgery, he studied the Science of Ayurveda and Panchakarma from 1998-2002. He has studied mind/body medicine with Dr. Deepak Chopra, MD, Yoga Therapy from Vivekananda Research Center in Bangalore, India, courses in Ayurvedic medicine with Dr. Sunil Joshi, MD (Ayurvedic) in Nagpur, India and courses in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil in Tucson, AZ. He has studied Ayurveda and Panchakarma with Dr. Prerak Shah , MD (Ayurvedic) in Ahmadabad.

Dr. Jain lectures on Ayurvedic Principles and Practices, and how to create Optimal Health. Recently, he has become interested in the science of graceful aging as it relates to Ayurveda and its signature therapies of Panchakarma.

Catherine R. Powers-James, PhD

Dr. Catherine Powers-James is a licensed clinical psychologist in Texas. She received her doctoral degree in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of North Texas and she completed an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. She currently works as a psychologist in the Integrative Medicine Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Powers-James is interested in preventative care and health promotion within cancer populations. In her clinical practice she uses evidence based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and interpersonal therapy to help patients with their cancer diagnoses and to allow them to live a healthy, well-balance life. Her primary research focuses on mind-body interventions and treatment of psychosocial symptoms. Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Integrative Medicine Program and Department of General Oncology.

Nicole Brose

Nicole is a graduate of Purdue University with advanced studies from the University of Massachusetts and University of Auckland, New Zealand. Nicole has extensive experience in marketing, fundraising, strategic planning and grant writing in the non-profit, corporate and educational arenas. She currently serves as Development Director for one of the largest animal welfare groups in the country, First Coast No More Homeless Pets.
For several years Nicole served as Executive Director of the Flagler County Education Foundation, completely re-branding the organization and creating programs to enrich the lives of children and their families.
Nicole was Vice-President of Business Development for CIC Planning Group, Inc., located in Florida. In that position, she oversaw planning and grant development, working with a diverse group of clients that included government entities and educational institutes. In this capacity she helped raise million of dollars for various non-profit clients.
Her past work with non-profits (focused on marine mammals and environmental issues) has taken her to Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Hawaii and Cape Cod, where she conducted educational classes concerning the environmental issues impacting habitats and also focused on fundraising for non-profits.
Board appointments have included Jacksonville Mayor’s Animal Task Force, Second Chance Rescue, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NE FL, Mayor’s Task Force on Health and Wellness for NE FL, George Washington Carver Foundation, and the Women’s Health Council. She is a current member of the Board of Directors for Hope to Help Foundation and the Flagler Humane Society. 

From a young age, Nicole has been active in her community, involved in many types of leadership programs and volunteer and board roles. Nicole brings a lengthy history of dedicated and passionate advocacy to the non-profit sector in several countries and states. She also has a love of horses (owns a rescue horse) and has helped create equine-assisted therapy programs for non-profit groups. She enjoys time with her family, and she and her husband Gary love traveling and entertaining.
